Read the pages as a story, then write the script your film is made from. Two steps.

Why the script comes before the video

The script tells the Video stage a lot: which panels belong in one shot, how long a shot lasts, and whether someone is speaking in it. Without a script the Video stage has to guess.

Story is also the cheapest stage to change your mind in, so it comes before the expensive one.

You can skip it. Then your film has pictures and sound but nobody talking.

Plan Story a few credits

Run this on your imported pages, not on the cut panels. The story lives on the page, where you can see the whole moment and the reading order.

For each page it writes down what happens in the story, every line said on it, and who says it.

It describes people instead of naming them: “blue jacket, brown hair, smiling”. Only the picture shows which person a bubble belongs to, and a description still works after the Art stage has repainted everything.

Write Script a few credits

Turns those notes into one script file. Every line has a start and an end time, so it lands on the right picture.

Pick one of two kinds:

Narration

One voice tells the story over the pictures.

Dialogue

The characters speak. Each line says who is speaking, and the Sound stage gives each of them a voice.

You can switch a finished script between the two at any time, and the timings stay as they are.

Mark the video script

A project can hold several scripts. Open the one you want and click Mark as video script. The shots, the voices and the subtitles are all planned from the script you marked.

Change a script

Open any script in the script editor. You can rewrite a line, change its timing, move lines around, and switch between narration and dialogue. You can also import a .srt file you wrote somewhere else. See Fix things by hand.
